Whether you’re engaged and registering for gifts or you’re attending a wedding and need to buy a gift for the couple, you want to make a choice that fits your earth-conscious values, right? That’s not always easy when registries are typically filled with unnecessary items or low-quality products that will need to be replaced in just a few years.
When you’re looking for eco-friendly wedding gift ideas, here are a few tips:
- Skip the plastic. When possible, opt for metal or glass products (especially in the kitchen) as these are more environmentally friendly to manufacture and will last for decades — or a lifetime — with proper care.
- Don’t wait till the last second. Do a little research on items you’re considering to find out how and where they’re manufactured, their company values, and what kind of warranties or guarantees exist.
- Stick to items that will be well-loved. If you don’t host formal gatherings, fine china will be useless. You probably don’t need half a million kitchen gadgets, or 57 bath towels. Do an analysis of what items fit into your lifestyle and only register for those.
- If you find you don’t actually NEED anything, skip the registry entirely and ask for cash, gift cards, or charity donations. You can find more info on setting up an awesome registry in this post.
And without further adieu, I present to you a compilation of some of my favorite eco-friendly wedding registry ideas:
Le Creuset Cookware and Bakeware
Le Creuset offers high-quality cast iron and stainless cookware, bakeware and more. Most products are covered by a limited lifetime warranty, so these items are meant to have a place in your kitchen forever.
If you and your love spend a lot of time whipping up smoothies, sauces, dips, and other blended favorites, a Vitamix is a necessity. No other blender achieves a smoother consistency! They’re an investment, but Vitamix covers their products with one of the best warranties in the industry (up to 10 years) — although less than 1% of products have ever needed it. That’s quality!
Every kitchen needs a great set of knives, and Cutco makes the best. They offer sets (with or without a knife block) but you can also pick and choose the types of knives you actually anticipate using. Cutco guarantees all of their products forever, even if they’ve been passed down through generations.
Pyrex Mixing Bowls and Glass Storage
A set of nested glass mixing bowls and glass storage containers are some of the most-used items in my kitchen. Pyrex is affordable and high-quality!
If you want to ditch the plastic wrap, you’ll love Bee’s Wrap. It’s fabric coated in beeswax that can be used to wrap up sandwiches and other foods, or cover open containers. Simply wash with dish soap and cold water and reuse!
Norwex Counter Cloths
Most kitchens go through paper towels like they’re going out of style, but Norwex Counter Cloths are a great reusable alternative. The absorbent microfiber picks up germs using only water, so you won’t need to use any harsh cleaning agents either.
Plover Organic Bedding
If you want to invest in organic bedding but have been longing for something other than white, Plover Organic is your new favorite shop! Their textiles are certified organic and use dyeing methods in accordance with the Organic Fiber Processing Standards, and the results are stunning! I can’t even begin to choose a favorite.
High Sierra Low Flow Showerhead
Low Flow showerheads are a fabulous way to reduce the amount of water you use each day — and you probably won’t even notice the difference! This option from High Sierra reduces water usage by 40%.
Coyuchi Organic Bath Textiles
The Coyuchi company is dedicated to manufacturing textiles in a way that is as sustainable and earth-friendly as possible. Their bath towels start with organic Turkish cotton and are manufactured responsibly according to GOTS and Fair Trade standards. They also offer a circular subscription plan to keep textiles out of landfills!
